There is no guarantee that you will earn any income in any business you ever start. Whether it is a regular "brick and mortar", online, or Network Marketing business. There are many factors that come together to create a financially successful business endeavor. Although not the only factors there are 3 key factors that impact all opportunities.

2) Financial Commitment
3) Long-term commitment
There will be a requirement of your time and effort if you want to start a successful business. Anyone who tells you that you do not have to work to earn income is not being honest with you. You cannot expect to start a business, and then sit back and hope the money starts rolling in. It is not realistic and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is not being honest with you. At best they are only telling you half the story.
To get a return on any investment, requires first that there actually be an investment. Although the amount invested can vary widely when starting a business, there is always both and initial and then an ongoing investment required to start and run a business. The key factor involved is the RETURN ON INVESTMENT or ROI. So while financial investment is almost always required to start a business, what matters most is whether or not you are receiving a RETURN on that investment.
Seldom does a significant return on investment come overnight. It takes both patience and hard work to see a greater return. To really see success in business you have to be committed to doing what it takes, for as long as it takes, to see the kind of results you are wanting and needing to see.
So the bottom line in any business one is planning to start, the level of success you desire to achieve is greatly in your hands. How much time are you going to invest to make it happen? Are you willing to work and put in the time and effort? Are you willing to invest some of your available financial resources to advertise, market and promote your business? Are you willing to stick to it for the long term and do what it takes to make it happen?
